Henry Gresham (1833-1883) was the son of Thomas Gresham ([1784-1838]; of "Woodlawn" and later "Dewsville," King and Queen County, Va.) and Mary Ellen "Polly" (Dew) Gresham ([1790-1836]; of "Dewsville"). He was educated at the University of Virginia, Jefferson Medical College, and the Philadelphia School of Anatomy. During the Civil War, he served in the 55th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Tappahannock Seminary on the Rappahannock River

The Tappahannock Seminary was started by Lucy Wellford Gray in 1818. It included over seven hundred girls and boys during its history. The school taught reading, writing, figuring, domestic arts, music, drawing, and manners, and was well-respected and highly patronized. It closed in 1860 with the death of Lucy Wellford Gray.
